The purpose of the Early Years Curriculum is to provide teachers with a framework for interacting with children and planning, assessing and reflecting on an effective preparatory year curriculum. Although children enrolled at the Serendipity Pre-School Education Program are aged 2- 5 years, The Child Listener uses this 'Prep Year' document as a working reference - ensuring that children are fully prepared for school, and able to individually reach their potential in the Early Learning Areas. Just 4 children may enroll at any session- the goal is that all children gain 1:1 attention in an environment where they are able to learn through play, and develop independence and self-confidence in addition to positive social and communication skills. A purpose built unit is being designed, to offer a bright and stimulating environment in which to facilitate a positive approach to learning and to problem solving. It will be equipped with a wide range of toys, books, equipment and games to to develop fine and gross motor skills. Both the outdoor and inside space will be used to its full advantage, to to help foster a curiosity about the world around us, and develop imaginative and creative play. Individual learning programs will be developed for each child, and parents will be encouraged to be continue this program at home throughout the week. Parent commitment to this program is paramount- teaching your child to read as early as possible is one of our priorities, in line with worldwide recommendations regarding the teaching of literacy. The Child Listener cannot do this without your involvement. Please view 'Read Australia'- one of the Child Listener's education related web sites. To add your name to the waiting list please complete the Expression of Interest Form. All children are welcome. When open children will be offered places according to date added to the waiting list. The Child Listener has a Blue Card, is a registered Queensland teacher, and has a current First Aid Certificate. The Serendipity Pre-School will be fully covered by Public Liability Insurance.
